A completely new area of use for thermal spraying is currently being tested. Professor Nicolaie Markocsan at University West in Trollhättan is investigating whether it is possible by spraying on layers of titanium oxide to create photocatalytic surfaces that kill viruses and bacteria. This would be of great benefit to surfaces that are polluted in public environments.
